We are the Party

It was a tremendous honor to be elected at Saturday’s convention to represent our Commonwealth at the Democratic National Committee. My first meeting will be right after the National Convention in Chicago on Friday, August 24th.

In my speech to the Convention, I said “our party has failed us in a lot of ways”. I’ve heard a few comments that I was too negative. Here are my remarks:

Now I’ll be a National Committee member, but I’ve been a State Central Committee member and a Fairfax County Democratic Committee member for quite some time. Many party activists are just volunteers. But, note I didn’t say the DNC or DPVA has failed us. Or the House or Senate Caucus. Collectively, we will need to work to improve what we do if we want to win. We are the party.

We can’t just sit back and hope to win. We can’t just rely on blaming Trump for everything. We need to remind everyone that we are fighting for them—that the Democratic vision is one where government works for our collective security, health, and prosperity. Because if people feel like they’re being ignored, that they get nothing from either party, they will stay at home.

Let’s win together.
